My son’s name is Paul. At 6 months he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. As his Mom, I’ve always searched for an activity that would provide Paul physical, cognitive, emotional, and social benefits. I’m so glad I found (MFM) Manes for Movement. He began attending MFM 1 year/9 months ago. MFM provides Paul the opportunity to engage with horses and learn about horsemanship out of the saddle. Paul’s session are 1:1 with an O.T. who provides a safe horsemanship adaptation and offers social opportunities with other participants. Paul, who didn’t grow up around horses was fearful at first. The general fear of the horses large size & power and the sound of a horses snort had him jumping up out of his skin. MFM gradually exposed Paul to gentle & calm horses through positive and low-pressure interactions like the hands-on tasks of grooming, feeding, or just being near them, which built comfort over time. This was a new, unexplored world for Paul and it now provides a sense of independence and freedom that defies his disability. The presence of a horse is now a calming and stress-reducing activity. Please consider supporting MFM this Month of Giving!
