This is Kelly at Manes for Movement, doing her favorite thing with some of her favorite people.

Kelly has Cerebral Palsy. She started riding horses (in Long Beach CA) as part of her therapy when she was about 3 years old. She fell in love with the whole experience—being around horses, riding—while getting therapy without even realizing it. For her, it was just FUN!

She was still quite wobbly, from low muscle tone due to CP, when she started.
Riding and doing vaulting exercises on horseback did wonders for her core strength and balance. She got strong enough to stand, sit backwards, even hang upside down (often with me on the sidelines covering my eyes, but there was total trust on Kelly’s part). She participated for about two years and loved every minute of it.

Kelly’s 32 now. We’re so lucky that Manes for Movement has provided adaptive riding for Kelly for the last couple years. She no longer needs the help of a therapist while on the horse. Now, she is able to learn independent riding and horsemanship skills, and it’s still a great way to get much needed exercise all while having a blast. It’s so FUN!

Kelly loves riding, grooming, giving her four-legged friends their favorite snacks, and being with Niki, Erin and their wonderful volunteers like Ava.

Please consider supporting Manes for Movement so this amazing organization can continue to provide others the same opportunity Kelly’s had. They provide therapy and adaptive riding for many children and adults, in a fun and caring environment.
