Hi, my name is Jeffrey.
I’m part of the groundwork horsemanship program at Manes for Movement, and I’ve been caring for the horses here for three years.
Working with horses has changed my life. Being a person with Autism Spectrum Disorder, it’s not always easy to feel confident or comfortable around new people—but here, I feel understood. The best horses don’t judge; they listen. They’ve taught me patience, awareness, and how to recognize emotions—both theirs and mine.
Every day at the barn is different. Some days I’m feeding or brushing the horses, other days I’m cleaning stalls or leading the horses in an obstacle course. No matter what I’m doing, I always end the day giving the horses carrots—because they’ve earned it!
This program has also helped me open up to others. I’ve learned to read social cues better, join conversations, and even use sign language with my friend Ava. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Manes for Movement isn’t just where I work—it’s where I feel happy, capable, and confident.
